3D Printing

Overview

Welcome to the 3D printing training program for the Bambu Lab A1 minis located in ME Design Lab (ME 2109). These advanced printers empower students to rapidly prototype, design, and test their projects right within the ME Design Lab. These printers are small, yet very capable machines offering an assortment of different materials and fast printing speeds. The goal of these printers is not to replace the printers in the Design Innovation Lab at Wendt, but to offer a convenient, cheap, and fast way for students to create smaller 3D printed parts.

To use these printers, please watch the Printing Process and the Basic Print videos below. The first video explains how our lab approaches 3D printing and the second video explains how to slice a part and create the appropriate files required to print to our machines. We assume that some of you will be very familiar with 3D printing (though maybe not these machines) and some of you may not have much experience at all. No matter who you are, the videos below will get you started. The remainder of the training is a la carte. Watch what you need, when you need it. It doesn’t cover everything, and it won’t make you an expert designer, but hopefully it will help you make better prints faster. Please reach out to Ethan Burton if you have 3D printing questions or would like a consultation.

Once you have a part ready to print, click the Print Request button below to submit a print job.

Printing Process – Overview

In this video, you will become familiar with the 3D printing process. This includes pre-processing, printing, and post processing. You will learn that these phases in the process are all interconnected and should keep in mind every step involved when starting. As with everything, you will need to practice the skills mentioned in this video in order to become good at them.

Basic Print – Overview

Watch this  module to learn how to submit a print job! In this training module, you will begin to acclimate yourself with the A1 minis by printing a basic part. This tutorial will go over importing a part into Bambu Studio, slicing, and submitting a print job. Before watching this tutorial, please download Bambu Studio, as well as the STL file.
